    Important General Information:

    1. If a student is absent from a test and wishes to be given a make-up test, then he or she must formally request this within 48 HOURS of the test missed. The request, which must be supported by a properly documented excuse, must be presented to the student's instructor. If you are the least bit uncertain as to the validity of an excuse based on some previously scheduled, upcoming event, then seek approval for a make-up before the exam in question, not after the fact.

    2. To succeed in M408K students need to develop good study habits and to seek assistance whenever and wherever it is provided. Students are particularly encouraged to attend discussion groups regularly and to seek help from the Teaching Assistant for the section for which they are registered.

    3. Additional help is available at the UT Learning Center (UTLC) in Jester A332. It will offer the following programs to all U.T. students taking M408K in Fall, 2008. The web site for the UTLC contains the details for these programs:

    • Free drop-in tutoring for M408K. Tutors are available at all times to help you with your questions. This is a great place to go to ask questions about homework problems you have been struggling with. Plan to go after you have worked on problems on your own, and come with questions.

    • The tutors at UTLC can also answer questions related to prerequisite knowledge (precalculus topics), study strategies, and "math anxiety problems". The Drop-In tutoring lab assistants can provide you with many helpful math resources (textbooks, videos, handouts, formula sheets, etc.).

    • Private one-to-one Tutoring is also available at UTLC. The cost is $13.50/hour. In order to sign up for tutoring, you will first need to visit the UTLC front desk (JES A332A) to be registered in the UTLC database. If you are receiving financial aid, you may qualify for 25 hours of free tutoring per semester. Inquire at UTLC to see if you are eligible.

    • Free workshops and classes are also offered by the UTLC. These include Study Skills, Trigonometry Review, Differentiation Review, and Final Exam Review for M408K, among others.

    • Because good algebra and trigonometric skills are essential for success in M408K, students should test their skills by taking the free Algebra Diagnostic Test and Trigonometric Diagnostic Test for Calculus Students

    • Calculus videos are also available for check out at the UGL Audio Visual Reserves (3rd floor).
UTLC  free courses to get you started this semester (registration is required).
    • Algebra Review
    • Trigonometry for Calculus
    Final Exam Review

Students who wish to use these services should go to the UTLC main office in Jester A332A. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9-5. Check also the web site http://utlc.utexas.edu

    4.  Residential Hall Study Groups
Sunday - Thursday evenings. See website.
Jester Dormitory (Jester City Limits, 1st floor, 7:30-10:30 pm)
Kinsolving Dormitory (KIN dining entry area, 8-10:30 pm)
The College of Natural Sciences has created the RHSG for M408K, M408L as well as CH301and Bio311C, to encourage group study and independent thinking. RHSG will be staffed by teaching assistants and undergraduates.

    5.  Students who fall under the University's Learning Disability Policy must present the Dean of Student's certification of that fact to the student's instructor prior to the first test.  The University of Austin provides upon request appropriate academic accommodations for qualified students with disabilities. For more information, contact the Office of the Dean of Students at 471-6259, 471-6441 TTY.

    6. Calculators may be used on the homework but may NOT be used on any tests.
