Cobordism Hypothesis I: Introduction
Description
We will begin with a summary of bordism and what a topological field theory is, with a motivating example from quantum mechanics. The main goal of the talk will be to describe a one-dimensional quantum field theory of oriented manifolds and then state a special case of the cobordism hypothesis in this setting. Time permitting, I may try to state a more general version of the cobordism hypothesis and mention some related ideas appearing in quantum field theory.
