In this talk, I will introduce stability conditions on coherent sheaves and motivate them. In an attempt to pick out BPS branes on a Calabi-Yau, Michael Douglas discusses Pi-stability, which was mathematically formulated by Bridgerland into stability conditions  in his name. I will discuss the mathematics of a stability condition on the simple example P^1, and touch DT invariants of stable objects.
