Let M be a sparse k by n matrix, and let V be a uniform random coordinate subspace of R^n of dimension r. In this talk we discuss the problem of estimating the smallest singular value of the restriction of M to V, and relate this problem to the concept of Oblivious Subspace Injections in randomized linear algebra.
