Mathematics graduate students work alongside our award-winning faculty in areas like topology, analysis and machine learning, and collaborate with leading experts in specialized fields such as actuarial math.

Programs

The Department of Mathematics offers a Ph.D. program with around 15 students joining each fall to pursue advanced research in various mathematical fields. We also offer an M.A. in Actuarial Mathematics, enrolling about two students annually. The program consistently ranks among the top 10 in the nation.

Our Department

The Mathematics Department’s core faculty consists of around 50 tenured and tenure-track members who conduct research, supervise Ph.D. students and teach across all levels. They are supported by postdoctoral researchers, emeritus faculty and a dedicated instructional faculty. These instructors, including experts like Mark Maxwell in actuarial mathematics, play a key role in undergraduate education.
